Multi-Factor Authentication

What is Two-Step Login?

Two-Step Login pairs something you know (your MultiPass username and password) with something you possess (usually a mobile phone). It prevents unauthorized users from accessing your accounts with stolen MultiPass credentials.

Duquesne University uses Duo Security tools-including the Duo Mobile app-to manage the second step of the Two-Step Login process. With Duo Security, you can complete a Two-Step Login using any of these methods:

  • Responding to a push notification sent to the Duo Mobile app on your phone (the recommended method)
  • Entering a one-time passcode you generate in the Duo Mobile app or on a hardware token device
  • Entering a passcode from a list previously sent to your phone (or tablet) via text message or printed out and kept secure
  • Answering a phone call to a mobile or landline phone and following prompts to verify your login

You can choose your preferred method (and your preferred device, if have more than one enrolled) every time you log in.

Enrolling in Two-Step Login

Use Two-Step Login profile management tools (https://apps.its.uiowa.edu/uip-tools/two-step) to enroll new devices, establish backup methods, and enable applications. Find detailed instructions for adding devices and login methods below.

For security reasons, you can access profile management tools only from on-campus computers. To make changes from off-campus, call the ITS Help Desk at 412.396.4357.

CTS recommends using the Duo Mobile app on a mobile phone or tablet as your primary Two-Step Login method.

For this process, you'll need a phone or tablet and an on-campus computer, both with internet access. (To enroll a device from off campus, call the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-4357.)
