First African Studies Major "Highlight"

"Joining the African Studies department is one of the best decisions I've made in college. The African Studies coursework has given me a global perspective that now fuels my mindset and goals for the future. I have learned so much about myself and world, while being a part of the African studies and I couldn't be more grateful. Becoming the first student to have an African Studies major at Duquesne is such a privilege. The Center for African Studies is expanding so quickly and I'm blessed to be a part of its progress. Spreading the word and letting students know about the unique and diverse curriculum is something I look forward to and I know the department will have quite an impact on Duquesne University in the long run.
I have always hoped to become an attorney. However, my work with the Center for African Studies has influenced me to serve as a legal advisor for transitioning Africans who are coming to the United States, post practicing law as an attorney. This will allow me to practice law while continuing to learn and appreciate African Studies. The classes offered through the Center for African Studies and the many events they host has helped me uncover this career path", Lauryn T. Robinson, Political Science and African Studies Major
