Teaching Portfolio Review Session

Workshop for Certificate of University Teaching Applicants

Teaching Portfolio Review Session

Presenters: Steven Hansen (CTE) and Amy Criniti Phillips (CTE)
Date: Wednesday, February 23
Time: 3:00 – 4:30 pm
Location: 20 Chatham Square

In The Teaching Portfolio: A Practical Guide to Improved Performance and Promotion/Tenure Decisions, Peter Seldin notes, “An effective portfolio requires careful selection and thoughtful organization and must give an accurate, well-rounded picture of teaching effectiveness in order to be convincing to those who read it.”  Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to receive feedback on two required elements of the teaching portfolio for both the Certificate of University Teaching and the Advanced Certificate of University Teaching: the teaching philosophy and the one-page reflection on an instructional material.  Participants will break into small (interdisciplinary) groups and provide one another with guided feedback on these important documents.  As a result, each participant will leave the workshop with constructive advice that will help him or her to revise and improve the teaching portfolio.

Required Materials: All participants must bring with them a draft of the teaching philosophy, one carefully selected instructional material, and a draft of the one-page reflection for that instructional material.

This workshop fulfills the program requirement of “Attending a Teaching Portfolio Review Session/Consulting Individually with a CTE Staff Member.”  Please note that Advanced Participants must attend an additional review session (since one is required for each program).

Registration is required.  To register, please contact CTE via phone (412.396.5177) or via email (cte@duq.edu)
