Heritage Week 2016

Sunday, October 2nd: Feast Day of Claude Poullart des Places Liturgy
Join us at 11am Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit as we celebrate the feast day of the founder of the Spiritans Claude Poullart des Places!

Sunday, October 2nd: Water Walk Register Here
Noon on Academic Walk
Come out and help us raise awareness and funds for a water project at a Spiritan Mission in Olkakola Tanzania! The Pure Thirst program will be running a walk in solidarity around campus as we carry our water and learn about the global water crisis
In collaboration with Pure Thirst, Center for Engaged Teaching and Research, and the Rotaract Club

Monday, October 3rd: Chapel Tour and Campus Pilgrimage Where History and Prayer Intersect
4pm in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit
We regularly see the Chapel's steeple on the top of Old Main, or take in the various spots of beauty as we take a lunchtime walk around campus. Ever wonder the stories behind those "fixtures" on campus? Join Fr. Bill Christy for a tour and reflection on the rich history of the University Chapel, followed by a short pilgrimage to prayerful spots around campus with Fr. Dan Walsh.

Monday, October 3rd: Feast on Feast Day Giveaway
Academic Walk 12:30pm-2:30pm
Although des Places Day is Sunday, we will be doing our traditional Feast on Feast days give way on Monday of Heritage week! Come out and get yourself some FREE Rita's Ice as we celebrate the founder of the Spiritans, Claude Poullart des Places

Tuesday, October 4th: Embracing our Military Heritage
4pm in the Africa Room
From Fr. Daniel Brottier's service in World War I to our veteran students today, we have a long heritage of Spiritans and DU alumni that have served bravely in our armed forces. Join us for an evening of story sharing along with a small display of memorabilia. Light snacks will be served

Tuesday, October 4th: Scavenger Hunt
7pm Academic Walk
Think you know our campus? Come test your knowledge at a campus wide scavenger hunt!
Compete in teams of 2-3 people, prizes given to first two teams to finish!
Prizes include Starbucks gift cards and DU hoodies!

Wednesday, October 5th: University Birthday Party
11am-2pm on Academic Walk
Come and celebrate our 138th birthday as a university! There will be games, t-shirts, cookies, a photo booth, a dunk tank and new this year.. A FARMERS MARKET!

Wednesday, October 5th: Libermann Lunch
Noon in the Africa Room
The monthly Libermann Lunch will also be celebrating our university's birthday by hosting University Archivist Tom White to share on the history of Duquesne! The talk will be a short history of Duquesne University, from it's origins with the Spiritans as Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost to the present day. It will cover the early years, growth from a college to a university, the impact of the World Wars and the Great Depression, the physical expansion of campus over the bluff, and the development of key programs and schools.

Wednesday, October 5th: Birthday Cakes in Residence Halls and Commuter Center
12:00pm in the computer center, and 2:00pm in all residence halls
If you are a commuter your weekly PB&J will have an extra treat with a big birthday cake! If you are a resident, head to the lobby of your residence hall or the Commuter Lounge at 2pm to sing Happy Birthday and enjoy some cake!

Thursday, October 6th: Asante Rafiki
All those that donated to the Pure Thirst project in Tanzania last year will be invited to attend a thank you event to hear about the progress of the project! Asante Rafiki, Swahili for "Thank You Friends", will celebrate our work thus far and honor all those that have made our project possible!
