For more than 25 years, Duquesne has been a leader in Supply Chain Management education and garnered regional and national recognition in the process. The Center focuses on the ways that information systems and technology can enhance the management of complex, integrated supply chains.
Our supply chain students will learn how to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of supply chains by using advanced planning, scheduling, procurement, management, transportation, and warehouse management systems and technologies.
The Center of Excellence offers six labs where students can simulate making presentations, participate in meetings, and perform negotiations between buyers and sellers while their activity is being recorded with cameras which can be reviewed, critiqued and evaluated with the student.
The Center has integrated SAP's ERP (enterprise resource planning) software into the curriculum of several classes allowing students to perform exercises which simulate real business world transactions in sales, purchasing, planning, warehousing and inventory, and see the financial consequences in the general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable. We now offer students an opportunity to earn an SAP Student Recognition Award co-sponsored by the SAP University Alliance and the School of Business, this award enables students to gain hands-on experience performing transactions with SAP's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in purchasing, sales order management, production management, inventory and information systems. Students must take three classes that have 30% content with SAP in order to qualify for the award.
The Center for Excellence has partnered with ASCM (the nationally recognized Association for Supply Chain Management) to deliver the body of knowledge in supply chain content for classes that can lead to certification.
The Center in conjunction with the student led Duquesne Supply Chain Council (DSCC) hosts monthly meetings with presentations from local businesses on pertinent supply chain topics. The DSCC holds an annual "Connection" event as a career networking event with local businesses having the opportunity to meet with students on how a career in supply chain fits into their company.
The Center also has a mentoring program that pairs supply chain students with a mentor in a related career which allows the student mentee the opportunity to learn from a mentor's experience. The program lasts for a full academic year.
