Organizational Capacity Building
Build Agency Capacity
Through community-engaged learning, students can implement projects that build agency capacity or provide direct assistance that supplements day-to-day client services.
- Tangible Programming - in cases where lack of funding prevented programming, community-engaged learning can add support and allow the community-based organization (CBO) to serve more people;
- Diverse Expertise - through community-engaged learning, CBO's can leverage different diciplinary expertise. For example, leaveraging occupational therapies to augment ex-offender rehabilitation;
- Individualized Service - in cases where staffing prevents individualized attention, community-engaged learning can enable the CBO to provide clients with one-on-one service; and
- Trained Volunteers - student participants are well-prepared for their service and eager to work with diverse communities. Further, unlike traditional volunteers, students are required to be reflective in the service they provide, allowing for deeper commitment.
