Community Engagement Scholars and Faculty

A resource is available for academic divisions, departments, or learning communities to support community engagement efforts. In collaboration with the Office of Service-Learning, academic departments can be selected to host undergraduate or graduate students ("Scholars") who will assist with community partnerships, community-based research projects, service-learning courses, or other community-engagement efforts.

The Community Engagement Scholars program has been in existence since AH Quote2006 and has leveraged great resources for departments and opportunities for students.

Although each placement varies, Scholars generally spend 4-5 hours per week working collaboratively within a carefully designed departmental position to further faculty and departmental academic engagement efforts. Scholars will also spend approximately 4-5 hours per week in an intensive community placement relative to their departmental duties. Normally this inclues serving as a service-learning liaison to:

(1) facilitate communications between faculty and community partner organizations;
(2) manage, train, and schedule service-learning students to build community partner capacity; and
(3) perform direct service, as needed, at the community partner organization.
