Dr. Alan Seadler is the Associate Academic Vice President for Research at Duquesne University, holds the Edward V. Fritzky Chair in Biotechnology Leadership, and is director for the Center for Biotechnology. He holds an executive faculty position at the Duquesne University Bayer School for Natural and Environmental Sciences.
In his role, as the Edward V. Fritzky Chair, Dr. Seadler developed the MS program in Biotechnology and led its inception and approval by the PDE. He actively teaches in the program as well as guiding the evolution of the curriculum.
As Associate Provost for Research, Dr. Seadler oversees support for grants, research contracts, technology transfer, foundation relations, and sponsored research with industry, as well as serving as compliance officer for the University's Human Research Protection, Animal Care and Use, and Biosafety obligations.
Alan gained his knowledge of economic development as vice-president at the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse in charge of its incubator and Executive-In-Residence programs. This experience proved useful to helping Duquesne and its partners win designation of a Keystone Innovation Zone for central Pittsburgh.
Dr. Seadler has had an extensive career spanning both academic and industrial bio-medicine as well as entrepreneurship. Prior experiences include senior management positions at Ciba-Corning, Fisher Scientific, and Amersham Life Science. In addition Dr. Seadler has held executive positions with emerging companies in the life sciences including Biological Detection Systems Inc. a cell imaging company and Visible Genetics Inc. a Canadian firm commercializing genetic sequencing systems for the infectious disease market. Alan served as Chief Operating Officer at Cellomics Inc., a drug discovery company now part of ThermoFisher. He was Chief Executive Officer for Crystalplex a start-up nanotechnology company immediately before joining Duquesne University.
Dr. Seadler sits on the board of directors for the Pittsburgh Tissue Engineering Initiative and is board treasurer for the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology and Education and for the Pittsburgh Green Innovators. Alan sits on several civic boards as well as grant review committees.
