Bio

Betsy Guimond is a seasoned educator with clinical and instructional expertise.  A recent transplant to the Pittsburgh area, she holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of North Florida, a graduate degree from the University of Florida, and a PhD from the university at the center of Florida's High Tech Corridor-the University of Central Florida.  She is passionate about fully engaging students and helping them to make the connection from classroom lectures to clinical practice.

Her expertise includes women's health, obstetric nursing, design/delivery of web-based education, simulation-based learning, and the use of classroom technology tools for nursing educators. Her doctoral dissertation was aimed at improving student outcomes for quality and safety during obstetric clinical rotations. She has published several articles on these topics.

Women's health is the heart of her clinical focus.  She has worked as a high-risk obstetric nurse and as board certified nurse practitioner in women's health providing a wide variety of women's healthcare services to adolescent and adult women.  She was among the vanguard of nurses to become certified as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in 2002.  In addition, she was the project director for the Interdisciplinary Rape Science Training Institute for the State of Florida; the program provided training for multidisciplinary teams consisting of health care providers, law enforcement and victim advocates.  She has served on the Women's Health Advisory Committee for the Association of Women's Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and she currently serves on the National Certification Corporation's content team for the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner certification examination.

Dr. Guimond currently teaches courses in the Master's core curriculum and in the Family Nurse Practitioner program.   She serves as the parish nurse for Bethany Lutheran Church in Bethel Park and as a nurse practitioner for Student Health Services at Duquesne University.
