Harry W. Witt, B'62

Former Senior Managing Partner, Deliotte & Touche

Mr. Witt joined Deloitte & Touche, a major international professional services firm offering accounting, auditing, tax and consulting services, after graduating from Duquesne University in 1962. During his 40 year tenure (32 as a partner) at Deloitte he held numerous positions including managing the audit function in New Jersey as well as being the Managing Partner of New Jersey, Metro New York, the New Jersey and Philadelphia Group and the East Region. In his role as a Senior Partner in the firm (2000 - 2002) he was responsible for strategic planning, leadership development and team building, client satisfaction and the integration of the western hemisphere. Harry was a vice chairman of the firm from 1990 to 1995. He served on the board of directors for 13 years, chaired the partner retirement committee for 10 years, as well as serving on the firm's management committee. Throughout his career, in addition to his management roles, he had responsibility for serving the firm's most important strategic clients. He retired from Deloitte in 2002 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Regions Financial Corporation, one of the ten largest commercial banks in the US, and Chairman of the Audit Committee, from 2002 to 2008.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science Degree from Duquesne, Harry graduated from the Program for Senior Executives at MIT and held a teaching position at Carnegie Mellon University. Harry was a certified public accountant and held licenses in insurance and securities. He has been a frequent speaker on accounting, auditing and audit committee subjects as well as planning and people development.

Harry has been active in the community throughout his career and continues to do so. His interests are serving the underprivileged and especially youth. He was president or chairman and a board member of various community organizations including, United Way (both in Newark and Morristown NJ) and,YMCA, (both Morristown and Morris County NJ), Outward Bound, Chamber of Commerce and Tri-County Scholarship. He is currently active in The Order of Malta and Hope for Haiti where he supports building homes and village wells for the people in Haiti. He also supports orphans in Bali and Brazil. He received a number of awards for his civic service.

Harry was married to his wife Patricia Aites for 46 years who passed away in 2008. They enjoyed two children, Randy and Renee and three grandchildren, Ryan, Paige and Brad. Harry currently lives in Naples Florida and summers at Cape Cod Massachusetts. His activities include traveling, sailing, power boating, biking, skiing and golf.
