John Mawhinney is currently serving as Assistant Professor for Supply Chain Management, Palumbo Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University, and oversees the development and administration of the Supply Chain Management Program. He possesses twenty-six years of industry experience including 18 years with Westinghouse Electric Corporation in leadership positions in logistics, distribution, transportation, purchasing and SCM systems, and five years with Eaton/Cutler-Hammer in logistics strategic development and operations..
Dr. Mawhinney has over 20 years teaching experience, eight years as adjunct professor at Robert Morris College and Duquesne University, in operations management and supply chain management, respectively, and over 12 years as a full time Duquesne faculty member. He is the faculty sponsor of the Duquesne Supply Chain Council and founder of the Supply Chain Course Enrichment Program.
Recognized by students and peers for his teaching as well as for supply chain management program development, he is the recipient of the Kurt Rethwisch Outstanding Teacher Award (2002), Sigma Alpha Epsilon Apple Polishing Award (2005), School of Business Outstanding Educator Award (2009) and the School of Business Dean's Distinguished Service Award (2011).
John earned a B.S. in Logistics and Marketing at Ohio State University, an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and Doctor of Education in SCM Education at Duquesne University. In addition, he has a certificate in Advanced Transportation Management from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Mawhinney's research interests include the Contemporary Value Chain, the role of SCM in corporate success, SCM Higher Education, and human collaboration in virtual supply chains. He is the co-author, with Dr. William Presutti, of "The Supply Chain-Finance Link" published in the September 2007 issue of Supply Chain Management Review and "The Value Chain Revisited" published in June 2009 issue of the International Journal of Value Chain Management. He also co-authored with Dr. Kenneth Saban, "Human Collaboration: A Core Competency of Global Supply Chain Leaders" which was published in Journal of Applied Marketing Theory in 2010.
Dr. Mawhinney's professional affiliations include the Duquesne University Business School Supply Chain Management Advisory Board, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional, and the Institute for Supply Management. He is a member of and holds certification from the American Society of Transportation and Logistics, and the American Production Inventory Control Society.
