Prior to the program, all participants will complete a DiSC assessment to be used for the self-assessment on Day One of the conference.

Day one:

8 a.m. - Noon: Leading Self/Others/Organizations; Self-assessment

Assessing leadership effectiveness starts with a focus on self and your personal behavior style. This session includes a behavioral profile self-assessment to identify specific behavioral strengths and limitations. Participants will explore how behavioral style influences the ability to communicate, collaborate and lead others.

Participants will increase competency in:

  • Understanding, appreciating and valuing individual behavioral style differences
  • Determining the impact of behavioral styles on vertical and horizontal communication, collaboration and teamwork
  • Developing strategies for increasing leadership effectiveness by adapting your behavior style to the person and situation

Noon- 1 p.m.:  Lunch and Networking 

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.: Influencing Across the Organization

In a business environment where formal lines of authority and accountability cross organizational boundaries, it is important that leaders build skill around "influencing without authority".  This session focuses on strategies for building an influence network, the importance of defining your personal brand and best practices for cultivating your ability to influence across the organization.

Participants will increase competency in:    

  • Creating an influence network of advocates who will support you and your work
  • Proactively exhibiting your personal brand to be viewed as a leader in the organization.   
  • Implementing best practices for influencing up, down and across the organization

2 p.m. - 3 p.m.: Leading in a Multigenerational Environment

To enhance growth and benefit the bottom line, companies rely on leaders who are able to create a collaborative and cohesive environment. They want leaders who are able to leverage the talents, skills and strength of members of each generation in the workplace. This session focuses on understanding what motivates each generation in the workplace and provides tools for leaders to create a work environment that engages and motivates people to collaborate toward common goals.

 Participants will increase competency in:

  • Leading multigenerational project teams
  • Turning generational conflict into collaboration to get work done
  • Implementing best practices to respond to the needs of each generational cohort

3 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Personal Leadership Planning

Participants will receive a Personal Leadership Planner where they can document:

  • Leadership techniques and tools they want to remember and practice
  • Personal leadership strengths which they want to continue to nurture and weaknesses that need to be addressed
  • Actions they will take to continue to develop specific leadership competencies

Day two:

8 a.m. - Noon: Leading through Change

We all know that the speed of organizational change in the workplace has increased exponentially. Leaders need to understand the change process and how to engage, influence and inspire others to support a change initiative. The Leading Through Change session presents the Change Transition Model which describes the four stages people go through as they attempt to navigate a change. Participants will discuss how to reduce the resistance that inevitably accompanies change as well as strategies for accelerating the change process.  

Participants will increase competency in:

  • Helping others to navigate the change process - "Leading people through change"
  • Proactively managing resistance to a change initiative
  • Utilizing proven tactics/strategies to drive organizational change

Noon - 1 p.m.: Lunch and Networking

1 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Strategic Visionary Leadership; Personal Leadership Planning

Leaders need to have both an operational and strategic perspective for their business.  During this session, participants will examine how strategic visionary leaders think, act and influence in ways that promote enduring organizational success. 

Participants will increase competency in:

  • Tenaciously seeking knowledge and opportunities to learn about the industry and the business
  • Building external networks to understand what's happening outside 
  • Appreciating the importance of envisioning the future
  • Articulating an idea in terms of how it supports the business/business strategy

4 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Presentation Design

Participants will work in small groups to prepare a ten-minute presentation on a specific leadership topic relevant to their work and their organization.  Presentations will be shared with their manager/sponsor and other guests on October 28.  

Purpose of Presentations: 

  • Provide a forum for you to demonstrate leadership
  • Share your action plan for applying what you have learned
  • Demonstrate the benefit that your organization will realize from your new knowledge.

Day three:

8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.: Presentation Preparation

10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Presentations  

12:30 p.m.- 2 p.m.: Celebration Lunch and Graduation with Guest Speaker David Milbourne, VP of Talent Management, Arconic
