Susan Merrie English, OSB, Ed.D., MCC
Co-Director of Training

Dr. Susan English helped to found Duquesne University's Professional Coach Certification Program where she is Co-Director and a primary instructor for the program. She also maintains a private practice where she specializes in developing greater emotional intelligence, overcoming negative self-talk, improving communication skills, creating good habits, and finding life balance in service of a client's career. As an Educational Leadership Coach, some of Susan's favorite clients are faculty, chairs and university staff working on life balance and project completion. Susan has a particular fondness for helping graduate students who are struggling to complete their dissertations.

Dr. English has over 30 years of experience in the field of education and holds a doctorate in education. She taught or supervised in grades K-12 in public school, developed educational programs as an academic specialist in a prison setting, and was an Instructor and Assistant Professor for 12 years with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is an award winning student mentor, program developer, and social justice advocate. Dr. English is a member of the International Coach Federation and is a Past-President of the Pittsburgh Coaches Association.

Janice Manzi Sabatine, Ph.D., PCC
Co-Director of Training

Janice Manzi Sabatine, PhD, PCC, is President of Avanti Strategies, LLC, a firm specializing in executive coaching for physicians and scientists and biomedical communications consulting. She is a certified executive coach through the Pennsylvania State University Smeal College of Business and earned a BS in chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Recognizing the need among her technically trained peers for stronger leadership and interpersonal skills, Janice trained as an executive coach. In this role, Janice has helped numerous academic, scientific, and healthcare professionals become stronger, more effective leaders. A researcher by training, Janice relies on evidence-based methodologies to support her coaching and coach training activities. She is currently a recipient of an Institute of Coaching research grant to study the impact of a coaching-based career course supplemented with external coaching entitled "The Impact of Developmental Coaching on Career Adaptability Capacity and Moderators of Sustained Career Development among Graduate Students". She is co-director of training in the Professional Coach Certification Program in the Palumbo Donahue School of Business at Duquesne University and is a Past President of the Pittsburgh chapter of the International Coach Federation.

Kevin Ross Cheesebrough, Captain USN (Ret), MS, PCC
Co-Director of Training

Kevin has over thirty-five years in leadership, twenty-eight in the United States Navy, which included the command of a nuclear submarine, and ten years in applied research development. During his last years in the Navy, as the Professor of Naval Science at Penn State University, he taught leadership and ethics to aspiring naval officers. Following his retirement from the Navy he held leadership positions at the Applied Research Laboratory, Penn State and SRI International, State College. Also during this time, he was an adjunct professor at the Penn State, Smeal School of Business, teaching ethics for business managers.
Kevin attended the Duquesne University Professional Coach Certification Program, cohort seven. Since then he has established his own coaching business (Kevin Cheesebrough Coach, Inc.) and is presently an associate Talent Development Coach with Lee, Hecht, Harrison, an external leadership coach for Penn State University and an independent coach for the Ayers Group. His main emphasis is leadership/executive development coaching with a particular interest in developing emotional intelligence, mindfulness and executive presence in his clients. Kevin holds a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering from Penn State and a masters degree in management science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
