Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership

working across boundaries...

...aspiring for social justice

WHO we are:

We are a collective that seeks to form professionals who span the boundaries of school, academy, and community and work at the nexus of educational leadership and social justice. We are strengthened by our belief that social justice is the fusion of the heart, mind, and spirit in the moment of action. We pursue scholarship for schools in partnership with those who care for children and youth and we are guided by the Spiritan Tradition of Caring.

WHERE we're going:

In the Department of Educational Foundations and Leadership, we seek to develop educational leaders who are guided by a belief in social justice and who advocate for all children. We strive to serve as models for students to think critically, take an active role in their communities, and provide exemplary witness to the Spiritan Tradition of Caring. Through evidence-based inquiry and cultural responsiveness, our graduates will be leaders who shape the future of educational practice across the boundaries of school, academy, and community.

HOW we'll get there:

As a department uniquely concerned with the foundations and leadership of education, the mission of DEFL is to:

Create opportunities for learners to use educational theory, research literacy, and evidence-based practice in pursuit of social justice.
