3rd Annual Dr. Barbara A. Sizemore Youth Conference

The Duquesne University School of Education and the Barbara A. Sizemore Urban Education Initiative hosts its 3rd Annual Dr. Barbara A. Sizemore Youth Conference. The theme of this year's conference is "Myths & Stereotypes: Misperceptions of Underserved Students' Achievement."
This conference is designed to bring together Duquesne University educators, community leaders and local 10th and 11th graders to:
-communicate clear expectations for student learning,
-increase student accountability for learning,
-motivate students to produce quality work,
-strengthen student skills of organization, leadership, and communication,
-empower students to set and achieve realistic improvement goals,
-partner with community leaders to support student achievement,
-teach students to become self-evaluative, self-reflective learners,
-foster positive communication between teachers and students, and
-build students' self-confidence and self-esteem.
The conference also gives the students awareness of possibilities and accessibility to future college and career opportunities.
