Course Software Required for Instructional Technology
Adobe Products (CS6). This software is used in GILT 511, GILT 513 and GILT 520, GILT 521 and GILT 631. It includes InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat9 Pro, Flash Professional, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks CS5. Photoshop is an image editing software used in multiple courses in Instructional Technology Programs. Flash is an animation software.
Camtasia and Snagit. This software will be used in GILT 513 and GILT 520. You may download a 30 day trial version. Camtasia is a screen recording software used in multiple Instructional Technology courses. Snagit allows the user to harvest a screen image and save that image as a .bmp file in a selected folder or directory. Using the Camtasia application above, the image may be converted to gif or jpg files, cropped and enhanced.
Microsoft Offitce Suite. Basic productivity software used in every Instructional Technology course. Please be sure you have the most current version that the University supports and also be sure your version includes Word, Excel, Publisher, Access and PowerPoint.
SPSS. This software will be used in GILT 518. Contact the University Computer Store for pricing. SPSS is among the most widely used programs for statistical analysis in social science. It is used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government, education researchers, marketing organizations and others.
Adobe Acrobat Reader. The Adobe Acrobat Reader application is the essential tool for universal document exchange. Documents in PDF format preserve the exact look and content of the originals, complete with fonts and graphics, and can be printed, distributed by email and shared and stored on the Web, an intranet, a file system, or a CD-ROM for other users to view on Windows or Macintosh platforms. Turning Point. Turning point is an audience response system to assess student learning in a classroom. It is used in GILT 518 and GILT 520.
Kidspiration 3– for learners K-5 OR Inspiration 9 – for learners 6-12. This software is used in GILT 511 and GILT 512. You may purchase either of these programs depending on the grade level you are teaching. You may purchase both programs if you wish.
Smart Notebook 10. This software is used in GILT 513 and GILT 520. This software sets the standard for creating, delivering and managing interactive lessons within a single application. All your lesson materials are right at your fingertips.
Audacity is a free download. This software will be used in GILT 513 and GILT 520. Audacity can record and play sounds and import and export WAV, AIFF, MP3, and OGG files. Edit your sounds using cut, copy, and paste features (with unlimited undo functionality), mix tracks, or apply effects to your recordings.
PhotoStory will be used in GILT 521 and is a free download. You can bring your digital photos to life with this software.
Zoomerang and/or Survey Monkey will be used in GILT 518. You can download a 30 day trial version. If you plan to pursue a doctoral degree, we recommend that you purchase this software. Zoomerang is an online survey software tool allows you to create online surveys while providing powerful reporting and advanced survey logic.
Most courses require a combination headphone/microphone headset which is available at the University Computer Store or at your local electronics store.
