Legal Research Guides by Course: Copyright Law

Course Description

This course introduces students to the federal laws providing for protection of works of authorship, ranging from traditional works like books and photographs to newer works like computer programs. Basic principles and policies of copyright law are covered, including the range of works protected by copyright, the substantive requirements for protection, the procedures for obtaining protection, the nature and extent of the rights conferred, and remedies for infringement. The course also examines the role of copyright within the larger context of intellectual property law and policy. A technical background is not required to take the course. (3 credits)
