Student Membership

Membership of Law Review is based on a tiered evaluation system that is correlated to the students' class rankings in their respective divisions and sections as well as their overall class rankings upon the completion of either their first year of full-time studies or second year of part-time studies.

Top Ten (10) Percent:

(i) All participating students ranked within the top tenth (10th) percentile of their respective division and section and/or the top tenth (10th) percentile of their overall class who achieve a passing score on the editing and citation exercise will be offered Review membership.

(ii) The Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor will design the editing and citation exercise and determine the passing score.

Eleven (11) to Twenty-Five (25) Percent:

(i) The Board must offer membership to at least fifty percent (50%) of students ranked between the eleventh (11th) and twenty-fifth (25th) percentiles of their respective division and section and/or between the eleventh (11th) and twenty-fifth (25th) percentiles of their overall class who compete in the writing competition and complete the editing and citation exercise.

(ii) Participating students from this grouping will be assessed based on their editing and citation exercise score and writing competition performance.

(iii) The editing and citation exercise shall be the same one administered to students within the top tenth (10th) percentile of their respective division and section and/or the top tenth (10th) percentile of their overall class

(iv) No provision herein prohibits the Board from offering membership to more than fifty percent (50%) of participating students from this grouping.

Discretionary Membership:

(i) Students in good academic standing who ranked outside of both the top twenty-fifth (25th) percentile of their respective division and section and the top twenty-fifth (25th) percentile of their overall class as well as transfer students who did not have an opportunity to obtain membership upon completing the requisite course of study, may achieve discretionary membership by competing in the writing competition and completing the editing and citation exercise.

(ii) The editing and citation exercise shall be the same one administered to students within the top tenth (10th) percentiles as well as students ranked between the top eleventh (11th) and twenty-fifth (25th) percentiles.

(iii) Students ranked within the top tenth (10th) percentile of their respective division and section and/or the top tenth (10th) percentile of their overall class who fail to achieve a passing score on the editing and citation exercise may obtain discretionary membership by competing in the writing competition. This does not prohibit the Board from working with students who fail to achieve a passing score or taking into consideration unforeseen circumstances.

(iv) Membership from this grouping will be at the discretion of the Board based on Review's needs.

(v) Nothing herein requires the Board to offer junior staff membership to any student from this grouping.
