Placement
The Paralegal Institute maintains an online job bank, through DuqConnection, for students and graduates. Law firms, businesses and government agencies contact the Institute seeking candidates for vacancies. Current positions and openings are posted on the DuqConnection.
Internships
Students are encouraged to pursue an internship to enhance their paralegal studies. They are available during each term. Opportunities are available with law firms, government agencies, healthcare agencies, social service agencies and corporations.
In most cases, to earn elective credits toward their certificate students must:
- Successfully complete sixteen hours per week for ten weeks
- Complete a classroom component of a minimum of eight hours
- Have a minimum 2.75 GPA to be eligible for an internship

LEX Honor Society
The paralegal Institute maintains a chapter in the National Honor Society for Paralegal Studies, Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX). Students who have a minimum 3.75 GPA become eligible for membership upon completion of seven program courses.
Research Facilities
With the aid of a librarian, paralegal students are permitted to use the Duquesne University School of Law Library. Current textbooks are located on the reserve shelf in the Law Library. Most books from the general paralegal collection may be checked out of the library. Students in the program have unlimited access to Lexis/Nexis Academic. Students in 550 Legal Research Methods receive Westlaw passwords.
Student Identification Cards
Registered students at the Institute may obtain a student I.D. card at the DU Card Center which is located in the Duquesne Union. The DU Card is necessary in order to purchase a parking permit and to use other on campus resources. The DU Card Center can be reached at 412.396.6191.
Parking
University parking permits can be obtained at the University Parking Office which is located at the entrance of the Locust Street Garage. A student I.D. and proof of registration must be presented in order to purchase a campus parking permit. Rate information can be obtained online or by calling 412.396.5813.
Campus Housing
On campus housing is available only during the summer term. Contact the Office of Residence Life at 412.396.5028.
Transcripts
Students may obtain a copy of their transcript by calling 412.396.1643. There is a $5 fee for this service.
