Welcome to the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts website. We are a College with more than a century-long tradition and a strong vision for its future! The College is the oldest school at Duquesne University and the academic heart of the University. As part of a Catholic and Spiritan University, we are committed to the liberal arts development of all of our students.
Duquesne lies directly in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh yet is set apart on its own beautiful hilltop. It is a university large enough to have professors who are at the leading edge of their fields, but small enough that professors know you as an individual student. You see the Duquesne spirit in the way faculty interact with students: they encourage you, they demand your best, and they want you to participate in their research.
The core to the College's vision is academic excellence, combined with a spirit of service to marginalized populations. You also see the Duquesne spirit in the work that students give to the community around us-for example in tutoring, coaching, and clean-up days.
We have much to be proud of: we have produced four Fulbright Scholars in the last few years, we have achieved national rankings in Communication, English, and Psychology, we have a growing presence in the fields of Criminal Justice, Gerontology, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Modernist Studies, and Women's and Gender Studies. All of this is served by our 160 talented full time faculty members and nearly 100 part time faculty.
What makes us unique? We have a well-known phenomenological and humanistic tradition in our Psychology, Theology, Philosophy, and Communication and Rhetorical Studies departments. We have solid professional programs in Journalism and Multimedia Arts and Health Care Ethics. We have first rate Social Science programs in Sociology, Political Science, and Economics. In traditional liberal arts curricula we have strong English, Classics, Modern Language, and History programs. In addition we teach Mathematics, Computer Science.
Interested in double-majoring in a discipline outside of Liberal Arts? We have a growing number of conjoined programs by which you can receive a second major, minor, or certificate in the Schools of Business, Music, Health Sciences, Natural and Environmental Science, and Education.
If you would like specific additional information on what the College can offer you, check out our Facebook page or other social media presence such as Twitter, our blog, Instagram, or YouTube. Also, our Associate Dean, Dr. Magali Michael, would be happy to work with you one on one. You may reach her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to meeting you.
