Subject: CIQR Good News
I'm writing to share some good news with you. I participated in (and completed) the CIQR certificate program in 2011 as a doctoral student. My resulting dissertation (entitled, "Democratically Engaged Community-University Partnerships: Reciprocal Determinants of Democratically Oriented Roles and Processes") was a qualitative study using explanatory case study method. It has been recognized in two venues. It received the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement's 2012 Dissertation Award and was also selected for Duquesne's dissertation award in the area of social sciences. From that group of four awardees, it was selected to be the University's single nominee for the Council of Graduate School's National Dissertation award (to be determined in summer 2013).
I thought you'd want to know - I think it's an accolade for CIQR as well as qualitative research, generally. In my field, big data is looked at as the gold-standard, so having recognition for a qualitative study within the field's research association made me very proud. I want to thank you and the other faculty who established CIQR. It was (and continues to be) an important home for my work.
