Student Groups/Special Programs

Duquesne offers a number of opportunities for students whose interest in politics extends outside the classroom. There are both Young Democrats and College Republican clubs and they are advised out of the Political Science Department. The United Nations Council is Duquesne's student forum for lectures and programs that examine a wide variety of contemporary political issues. Each year, the UNC sponsors a Model United Nations for area high school students and participates in the National Model UN.

The University Pre-Law Program is directed in the Department.

Harold Webb, Jr., Award for Excellence in Political Science

Each spring the Department bestows the Harold Webb, Jr., Award for Excellence in Political Science on an outstanding senior. The names of the honored seniors are added to a plaque which hangs in the Department office. Most years the Department nominates a student for the College General Excellence Award. Students so honored give one of the addresses at commencement.

Pi Sigma Alpha, The Political Science Honor Society

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society for college and university students of government in the United States. The number of Pi Sigma Alpha chapters on campuses across the country is over 700. Pi Sigma Alpha is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.  Each semester, students who have fulfilled the national society's grade requirements are invited to join.
