Our Research Interests

Research is an essential component of scholarship in bioethics. The PhD degree is awarded on the basis of a dissertation that is the outcome of research. The DHCE degree is awarded on the basis of a practical project that also results from research.

Research in bioethics is facilitated through many resources that are available. Gumberg Library at Duquesne University has an outstanding collection of publications in the field of ethics in general and bioethics in particular. An enormous number of research resources in bioethics worldwide are available (not only in English but also in many other languages). The challenge is to find and select them.

Research is furthermore encouraged through the projects that are ongoing within the Center for Healthcare Ethics and in which students can be engaged.

Research Projects

Faculty in the Center for Healthcare Ethics are involved in several ongoing research projects. These scholarly projects provide a focus for faculty research and for student doctoral dissertations in the Center for Healthcare Ethics. Presentations on these research topics will occur at professional conferences, nationally and internationally.
