We make every effort to select the teacher who is best for you and recommend the classes appropriate for your age, skill level, and experience. Traditional Studies

Our standard program and most popular offering.  Students can choose from a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Strings, Woodwinds, Brass, Guitar, Voice and more!
Program includes: one-on-one lessons, a musicianship curriculum including eurhythmics and music theory designed for each age/grade level, weekly performance opportunities, and formal recitals.

Electives can be taken in addition to core curriculum classes for an extra $100/class.   Click HERE to learn more about our elective class offerings.

Suzuki Strings

Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, this approach to teaching the violin to young children can begin as early as 3.5 years. However, students of all ages are welcome.  This program method can also be applied to Viola, Cello, and Bass.
Program includes: one-on-one lessons, a musicianship curriculum including eurhythmics and music theory designed for each age/grade level, Suzuki group class (45min), weekly performance opportunities, and formal recitals.

Jazz Studies

Our newest offering recommended for students grades 6+ interested in understanding and participating in the world of Jazz . Students can choose from a wide variety of instruments including Brass and Woodwinds, Drums/Percussion, Guitar, Piano, Strings, and Voice!
Program includes: one-on-one lessons, a Jazz musicianship curriculum including contemporary theory and Jazz harmony, weekly performance opportunities in the Jazz Combos & Improv class, and formal recital performances.

Music Technology

In addition to standard musical concepts, students spend time in our computer labs and recording studios, learning about innovative technology and software used in music production, performance, film scoring, sound effects, and multi-media.
Program includes: a weekly group technology lab (1hr), audio engineering class with weekly recording sessions (1hr), music theory, and formal music technology showcases.

Note: This program is a primary study/instrument and can be paried with another program track (Traditional, Suzuki, or Jazz) at the secondary instrument rate.

Classes Only

Available for those who do not wish to take private lessons, but still want the benefits of CMC classes.
Program includes: one musicianship and/or eurhythmics class (depending on age/grade), one elective class, and optional weekly performance classes.

*Students will be assessed by the Department Chair of Musicianship and placed in classes that are age/grade appropriate.
 

Eurhythmics Classes:
Pre-K Eurhythmics (3.5yrs-Kindergarten), Primary Eurhythmics (grades 1&2), Elementary Eurhythmics (grades 3&4), Intermediate Eurhythmics (grades 5&6).

Musicianship Classes:
Musicianship I (grades 3&4), Musicianship II (grades 5&6), Musicianship III (grades 7&8), Harmony/Musicianship IV (grades 9-12), Music Theory (General Musicianship grades 7-12).

Elective Classes:
Audio Production I&II, Beginning Piano Class, Computers for Musicians, Contemporary/Jazz Theory, Electronic Ensemble, Electronic Orchestration & Synthesis, Guitar Ensemble, History of Electronic Music, Intrada Chamber Ensemble, Intro to Composition, Jazz Combos & Improvisation, Music History, and Vocal Ensemble.

Ensembles & Chamber Music

City Music Center of Duquesne University (CMC) is proud to partner with Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras (TRYPO) and the Youth Chamber Connection (YC2) to provide performance opportunities in both orchestral and chamber music settings. YC2 is a collaborative program providing chamber music education and performance opportunities for all members of CMC, TRYPO, and the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra (PYSO). Students of all levels will gain performance skills, as well as collaboration and leadership skills. Admittance requires a placement audition (which can be requested on your registration form), but all ages and skill levels are welcome to apply. Financial aid and payment plans are available. For more information, visit

Summer Lessons

Summer lessons are available to everyone, all ages and skill levels! Students and their teacher can select how many lessons they would like to take over the summer based on availability. To view pricing information click HERE.
