Current Student Wins District MET Audition

Alianna Whiteaker-Chudecke

Current Master of Music voice student Alianna Whiteaker-Chudecke (B.M. Performance, 2013) is one of five winners of the 2015-16 Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition in the Washington, DC district. The competition took place in November at the Wolf Trap Opera in Vienna, VA, and Whiteaker-Chudecke was selected out of 38 auditionees.

Since 1954, the annual National Council Audition has helped launch the careers of many notable singers, including opera star Renée Fleming. Its mission is specifically to "discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers."

Speaking about her experience at the audition, Whiteaker-Chudecke said, "It is a wonderful experience for feedback, as well as having the opportunity to audition in front of judges and a small audience. With the help of my teacher, Professor Guechev, as well as the numerous vocal coaches at Duquesne, I am able to have a solid audition portfolio that I feel comfortable performing in any setting."

In addition to prize money, Alianna will advance to the regional-level competition, scheduled to take place at the Kennedy Center on Febraury 7, 2016.

The Mary Pappert School of Music congratulates Alianna on her win and wishes her the best of luck as she moves further in the audition process!
