The 2017–2018 School Year Begins

mary pappert school of musicIt seems just like yesterday that we were sending the class of 2017 off into the world at our graduation ceremonies, but here we are at the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year.

There are already a lot of exciting events planned for the upcoming year. The final season of Schubert on the Bluff will see us through five concerts of the music of Schubert and guest composer, Claude Debussy. The Uptown Jazz Series returns with six concerts outlining The Evolution of Jazz and will feature a group of MPSOM faculty members, as well as some highly-acclaimed guest soloists. We will also present concerts ranging from Baroque Era works to the music of Steely Dan.

Our students will once again take center stage, performing in a wide variety of concerts and recitals. Our orchestra and wind ensembles return to Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland several times throughout the year, our choirs will sing in various churches around the city, and many of our other ensembles will present concerts right here on Duquesne's campus. To see a full list of events scheduled for this year, please visit duq.edu/MusicEvents.

Ways you can keep in touch with us continue to grow. In addition to our website, we currently manage social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. If you haven't followed us in those spaces, please take a moment to do so. The weekly eNewsletter continues again this fall, providing you with the most up-to-date information about each of our events, as well as a chronicle of the successes of our students, faculty, and alumni. If you or someone you know would like to subscribe to that newsletter, you can do so at duq.edu/MusicEmail. The School of Music's events are also now listed on the Corq app, available for both iOS and Android. Help us spread the word about all the wonderful events and news our school has to offer!

Last year, we introduced a new section of the Mary Pappert School of Music website, specifically for our graduates. The Alumni page is full of services our school provides to our grads (like membership on our gig list!) and also highlights their achievements. We are very proud of our alumni and how successful they are around the world, and when we hear of their successes, we want to share them with you. If you are a graduate of our school and have something you would like us to share, please send an email to music@duq.edu and let us know what you've been up to. Be sure to include your name, year(s) of graduation, degree(s), and what it is you would like us to share. (Links to online videos, sound files, web sites, etc. are very helpful, too!)

We are all very excited to be back, and we hope that all of our readers had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. To our students, we wish you all the best as you begin your classes, rehearsals, and lessons this year!
