Course Description

Introduction to Research in Music develops knowledge of and skill with the tools and processes of contemporary music scholarship. The course covers the use of a variety of research and reference materials in music quick reference, music bibliography, music history, and music analysis. Research skills involve interpreting and exploring problems and include a logical process of analyzing a research problem, developing specific research questions, identifying relevant sources, organizing data to point to a conclusion, and evaluating the results. By completing projects in music history, analysis, music education, and others, the course emphasizes skills of music scholarship that include techniques of bibliography, research skills, and scholarly writing.
