Duquesne University's Summer Music Technology Workshop, "Real World Digital Audio with Pro Tools," will provide each participant with digital audio fundamentals and an exciting weekend of study with our nationally renowned Chair of Music Technology Professor Bill Purse. An emersion of hands on experience with a digital audio workstation at Duquesne University's Digital Music Technology Labs awaits you. Bring your voice, instruments and specific music you wish to record. Participants will work at their own Pro Tools workstation and develop audio projects to be shared with the class at a final presentation.

During this workshop, you will learn how to:

• Use and apply basic audio (digital and analog) techniques and theory to create quality recordings
• Choose the appropriate microphone for a recording situation
• Effectively Record and Edit digital audio
• Use and program audio plug-ins
• Creatively use a basic digital audio workstation (DAW) such as:

1. Adding Digital Video (sound design and Foley)
2. Effectively Mix a project
3. Using digital audio effect plug-ins
4. Gain an overview of mastering the final frontier
5. To integrate MIDI and Standard MIDI Files within digital audio recording
6. Converting audio to compressed formats such as MP3 for use on the Internet

• Integrate digital audio music technology into online web presence

Computer Platforms and Software

While you will be working on the Macintosh platform at Duquesne, the software used in this workshop is available for both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. Adding the correct extension to file names will allow you to easily transfer files between platforms.
