Financial Support for Graduate Students
All Biology Ph.D. students receive comprehensive financial support, in the form of teaching assistantships and a full tuition waiver. Students in good standing are guaranteed five years of full support, with an additional one or two years available if needed. Ph.D. students may also be supported as research assistants. Current stipend levels are $23,500/year.
Current students are encouraged to apply for internal funding (e.g., the Bayer Fellowship), as well as external sources such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Environmental Protection Agency for graduate research fellowships.
The low cost of living in Pittsburgh ensures your stipend will provide a comfortable living, and contributes to its consistent ranking as one of America's most livable cities.
