This course is run annually by the PSD-IAI - dates will be announced here and on both the SPIN and FORENSICS email group managed through the Ross Police Department.

Introduction to Forensic Science

This one-day class is designed for individuals with no previous background in forensic science. This class will include lecture and hands-on practice with basic latent print theory and processing techniques, crime scene and evidence photography, and biological sample theory and collection procedures.

Crime Scene Investigation

This class is held at the Allegheny County Police Academy in North Park.
Dates will be announced here and on both the SPIN and FORENSICS email group managed through the Ross Police Department.

Possessing this certificate is a great aid when testifying in court, and demonstrates that you are trained and proficient in forensic sciences.
Each day of training will include a hands-on session in a different forensic discipline. All supplies will be provided.
The training will consist of five days:
• Day One: Crime Scene Processing, scene approach, management, trace and impression evidence
• Day Two: Latent Prints, scene and lab processing - Wayne Reutzel, Certified Latent Print Examiner 30+ years experience
• Day Three: Forensic Photography, equipment, techniques, digital imaging - Det. Brian Kohlhepp, Ross Police
• Day Four: DNA, Touch DNA, presumptive testing, collection - Sara Bitner, Allegheny Co ME's Forensic Biology Section
• Day Five: Death Investigation, Accidental, Natural, and Homicides - Commander Ron Freeman (ret), Pittsburgh Police Homicide 34 years

There will also be a University Certificate in Applied Forensic Sciences awarded to those that complete this course.

$395 ($295 when applicable)
**A 10% discount is offered if an agency sends 3 or more people and 20% if 5 or more attend.**

ADVANCED Crime Scene Investigation

Day One: Advanced Latent Print

Day Two: Bloodstain Pattern Analysis
Instructor: Craig Moore, Niagara Canada retired 30 year LEO and subject matter expert on blood spatter

Day Three: Fire, Explosion, and Arson Scenes
Instructor: Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Don Brucker, ACFM

Day Four: Morning session: Shooting Scene Reconstruction
Instructor: Tom Morgan of the ACOME Firearms Section with 10+ years' experience
Afternoon session: Advanced Forensic Photography
Instructor: Detective Brian Kohlhepp, of the Ross Police Forensic Investigation Unit

Day Five: Friday, May 8th
Advanced Death Investigation
Forensic Pathology and Autopsy
Instructor: Commander (ret.) Ron Freeman, Pittsburgh Police and Dr. Karl Williams, Chief Medical Examiner of Allegheny County
