SOCIETY OF PHYSICS STUDENTS (SPS)
We have an active chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS). Our Chapter promotes physics in campus and organizes physics-themed activities for all friends of physics, including:
•Physics-themed social events
•Outreach to elementary, middle, and high schoolers
•Visits to local physics and technology attractions
•Volunteering within the department and the school
The Chapter welcomes any Duquesne student who shares our interest in promoting and enjoying physics. No dues are collected to join. To send a request to join the society, click on Member Login in the right and follow links to join.
Our Chapter officers have a strong link with the Department and can help find people, information or resources related to physics.

Sigma Pi Sigma
In 1921, students and faculty in the Physics Department at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina founded the original chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the National Physics Honors Society. Sigma Pi Sigma is the official honor society of the physics profession. Through election to Sigma Pi Sigma, distinctive achievement and high scholarship in physics is recognized and celebrated. Today, there are over 740 chapters across the continental United States.
An inductee into Sigma Pi Sigma must be in the upper one-third of their class in general scholarship. A higher minimum average is often established for physics courses. Students must have completed at least three semesters of full-time college work and at least three semester courses in physics to be eligible.
The Duquesne University Chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma was chartered in 1965, has inducted about 70 members, and is actively inducting new members annually. Please check the "History" link for more information.
