Travel during the Semester
Travel will be one of the highlights of your semester abroad. Italy itself is so rich and so varied that you could never leave this single country for the entire semester and still have plenty to see and do. All the students will tell you: do some reading and planning ahead of time, because you will be better prepared to choose among the many options:
Included in your semester:
2 Academic Excursions
- Fri-Sunday
- Archaeological Italy: Naples/Pompeii/Capri/Paestum
- Medieval Italy: Tuscan Towns of San Gimignano, Siena, Lucca, Pisa
Optional and at extra cost:
Sponsored/Planned Trips:
“Mini-Excursions” from the Staff:
- Weekend trips within Italy
- Affordable ($150-$350)
- Limit of 15 students
- Great way to learn how to travel well while seeing wonderful parts of Italy
- Examples: Cinqueterre, Sicily, Puglia/Basilicata, Florence
“Director-Sponsored” Trip:
- Director Michael Wright will offer 1 such trip each semester
- Often for 4-5 days at the beginning of the 9-day semester break
- Destinations vary and may include: Spain, Istanbul, etc.
“Professor-Sponsored” Excursions:
- Professors will offer the opportunity to meet them in an Italian city for 1 day
- Examples: Art History to Florence; Theology to Assisi
Personal Travel:
- Students plan and go many places
- Usually done in small groups or pairs
- Longer trips planned for the 9-day semester break
