Zanzibar is a lovely island 16-31 miles off the coast of Tanzania, but it is a part of the country of Tanzania. The capital city is Zanzibar City, usually known as Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.
Zanzibar, a popular vacation destination for western Europeans, is famous for its beaches, coral reefs and spice plantations (notably cloves and coconuts) and a spice tour is one of the must-dos while visiting Zanzibar. Stone Town, with its traditional Swahili atmosphere and eclectic mix of buildings, is a great place to explore.
