Mole Day 2014
Annual celebration of Avogadro and his famous number scheduled
With the fall semester pressing on, the time has come for our yearly celebration of a quantity that all chemists know and love - the mole. Scheduled for October 23 from 11 AM to 3 PM, the event is sure to be a great time
(as usual) with a variety of activities planned to celebrate one of our favorite scientists and his contribution to the science world. Not only will we be selling "periodic table" decorated cupcakes and hot dogs, but there will
also be human whack-a-mole featuring the chemistry professors whom you choose.
The only way for us to know which professors you want to whack is through your donations to the cause! In the days leading up to the event,
there will be envelopes set up inside the Chemistry Department's main office (Mellon Hall 308) for each chemistry professor participating in the event. When October 23rd comes, the professors with the most money in their envelopes will
be the ones playing the "moles" in human whack-a-mole!
If you're a Duquesne ACS member, the other way that you can help out is by signing up to volunteer at the Mole Day event! If you can't make it to the event to help out,
we also need some Duquesne ACS members to make cupcakes for us to sell at the event.
And whether you're an ACS member or not, we encourage everyone to stop by on Mole Day to celebrate with us! Happy Mole Day to all, and don't forget to think about the important science behind this event!

Upcoming Meetings
Additional meetings scheduled as upcoming conferences inch closer
As the ACS regional meeting (October 29 - November 1) and the spring ACS national meeting (March 22-26, 2015) get closer and closer, Duquesne ACS will be holding additional meetings
to make sure members who are attending these conferences can plan accordingly with us. In order for us to make sure that all travel arrangements are made properly, it is extremely
important that all members who are attending any conference come to these additional meetings. In addition to helping us plan, you'll also be receiving some important information
about finances, presentation arrangements, and the best way to prepare yourself for such relatively large conferences. The first conference-specific meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 14th
in Wolfe Lecture Hall at 9:00 PM. In addition to this meeting, we'll also be holding our usual biweekly meeting on October 7th at 9:00 PM.
Aside from attending our meetings, the most important thing that you have to do in preparation for any ACS conference is make sure that your national ACS membership is in good standing. If your
membership has expired and you've received a renewal form, don't hesitate to bring it to us so that we can renew your membership! If you have any questions about your membership, just
let us know!
