Stephen Schillo

Vice President for Management and Business

Stephen SchilloSteve Schillo was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He completed his undergraduate and graduate education at Carnegie Mellon University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Economics and a Master of Science in Public Management and Policy Analysis from the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management.

Steve started his professional career as the Budget and Research Officer and Assistant Director of Finance for the City of Pittsburgh. In 1983, he assumed the position of City and School Treasurer and Deputy Director of Finance for the City of Pittsburgh.

In 1987, he made the transition from the public sector to higher education finance when he became the Budget Director at Carnegie Mellon where he has also taught Accounting. At the end of 1987, he assumed the position of Director of Business Services and in 1990 attained the position of Associate Vice President for Business Affairs and University Planning at Carnegie Mellon.

Later in 1990, Steve became the Associate Vice President ® Chief Finance Officer for the Main Campus of Georgetown University. He served in this position for three years after which he assumed the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration at Gannon University in Erie, PA. He remained at Gannon until he joined Duquesne as its new Vice President for Management and Business in July of 2002. Steve is glad to be back home in Pittsburgh with his family.

In his current position Steve serves as the University's chief business and financial officer, providing leadership and direction to all university business and support functions. He works closely and collaboratively with other members of senior management, the board of directors, executive and administrative colleagues and faculty and student leaders. Areas that report to Steve include Auxiliary Services; Internal Audit; Controller's Office; the DU Card Center; Human Resource Management; Facilities Management; Planning and Budget; Public Safety; Risk Management; Energy Center; Parking and Traffic Management; Purchasing; Environmental Health and Safety; and Support Services.

In addition, Steve also serves on several local boards and professional organizations and is a financial reviewer for the Pennsylvania Department of Education and for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
