Application Requirements

Application:

Complete the Online Application for Undergraduate Admission or download a printed application.

Fee:

$50 application fee (waived if we receive your application before December 15)

Transcript:

  • Applicants must submit all official, high school transcripts and college transcripts, if applicable.
  • Transcripts marked “Issued to Student” are not official.
  • All high school students who apply by December 1 should request that their current senior-year grades and course work be included on their official transcripts.

Test Scores:

Submit all official SAT and/or ACT scores.

Scores can be sent via

  1. College Board
  2. Mail or fax
  3. Official High School Transcript
Tests or scores not accepted or required by Duquesne University Admissions office:
  • TOEFL Exam
  • SAT Subjects test
  • SAT Writing section - We, like the majority of private institutions, will not use the Writing SAT score for an admissions decision.

Recommendations:

Please choose a recommendation type for application. Recommendations must be completed by a teacher or academic advisor. Either may be mailed or faxed to Duquesne.

You may choose one or both to serve as recommendations.
  • Letter of Recommendation - A standard letter from a teacher or academic advisor.
  • Recommendation form - A printable PDF checklist serving as an alternate to writing a letter of recommendation.

Personal Essay:

Please discuss the following (300 word minimum):

  • Tell us something unique about you, why you chose your particular major, and how you expect Duquesne University to help you achieve your academic, personal and professional goals. Please include any examples of your research, shadowing or volunteer experiences.
  • Essay for Health Science transfer and Nursing Second Degree applicants – Please refer to the Health Science or Second Degree Nursing web sites for your specific essay requirements.

Additional  School Requirements

Music Applicants
  • An audition consisting of performance, music theory and musicianship is required.
  • For additional information regarding the audition process, including audition dates, please visit the School of Music web site or contact the Mary Pappert School of Music directly at 412.396.5064.
  • Auditions occur between the months of October and March.
  • International students who cannot audition in person must submit a 15-minute DVD audition demonstrating performance abilities.
Physical Therapy Freshman

Documentation of a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer, paid, or shadowing experience in a physical therapy setting is required by August 1, 2012.

Transfer Applicants

All transfer students must also complete the Duquesne University Transfer Form.

  • Pharmacy – The Mylan School of Pharmacy accepts applications to transfer into the first professional year of the traditional (weekday) pathway only.  Seating is limited, and admission is considered on a "space available" basis.
Second Degree Applicants
  • Nursing – Please refer to the School of Nursing web site for application requirements.
  • Pharmacy – If you have, or will earn, an undergraduate degree by the end of the current academic year, you may be interested in our Pharm D Weekend Program.
College Credits in High School (CCHS) Requirements
  • High school juniors and seniors who wish to take University courses before they graduate high school will follow the requirements for all applicants, as stated above.
  • Students enrolled in CCHS may receive University credit for courses taken.  Courses will be offered at a reduced tuition rate.  For more details, contact the Admissions Office.
