About the Center for Biotechnology

The Center for Biotechnology at Duquesne University promotes the innovative development and application of biotechnology through an interdisciplinary, coordinated research effort across the University. It provides an impetus for connectivity while increasing interactions among the research faculty, other research universities, and the biomedical industry, while stressing translational as well as basic research.

Innovation and Discovery

The Center for Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary organization of faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, graduate, and undergraduate students from the Mylan School of Pharmacy, Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, and the Rangos School of Health Sciences.

The Center brings together the various scientific disciplines to stimulate applied research and the translation of basic science into technology which can be turned into applications and products through technology transfer or entrepreneurial efforts.

Collaborative Research Programs and More

Priorities for the Center for Biotechnology include: increasing connectivity both within and outside of Duquesne University, providing collaborative research programs and grant proposals, providing seminars and educational programs supporting translational science, and the improvement of core infrastructure.

Specific areas of interest include devices and diagnostics, drug discovery, drug delivery, gene therapy, bioremediation, bioinformatics, microbial engineering, analytical methods, pharmaceutics, compliance, and rehabilitation.

Modern Research Facilities

Modern research laboratories under the direction of our nationally recognized faculty are equipped with state-of-the art instrumentation and comprise more than 15,000 square feet of combined laboratory space.
