Job and Internship Fairs
Career Fairs Help Employers and Students Connect
Students have the opportunity at Duquesne’s biannual Job and Internship Fair to meet face-to-face and network with employers looking to fill full-time, part-time or internship positions.
Combined, more than 1,000 students attended the two fairs held during academic year 2016-17. Ninety companies participated in this year’s spring show, held Feb. 16 in The Duquesne Union, according to Nicole Feldhues, Duquesne’s director of career services.
“The Duquesne Job and Internship Fair provides an excellent opportunity for students to network with a large number of employers in one convenient location. Many students will move on to an interview for an internship or job as a result of attending the fair,” Feldhues said.
"The diversity here is very refreshing…there are students here from a wide variety of different fields,” said Heidi Masterson of the Catholic Cemeteries Association of Pittsburgh, who represented her company at the most recent fair.
Before the event, students are given a list of employers—which have ranged from Highmark Health to Bayer to UPMC this academic year—as well as additional information, such as the positions they have available and the majors they have identified for potential hires. Students also have the opportunity to prepare for the event by attending a "How to Work a Job Fair" seminar hosted by the Career Services Center.
“It opens up the door to a variety of possibilities for their future, some that they might not have even considered before. It is also a great career-building experience, where students learn how to present themselves professionally in a face-to-face networking environment,” Fuldhues said.
The Career Services Center helps students explore majors and careers, seek internships, and develop professional and job search skills. The Center has many offerings throughout the year to assist in the successful transition from classroom to the workplace.
In addition to the career fairs, the Center facilitates on-campus recruiting, job and internship postings, and a variety of other opportunities for employers to connect with students.
