Jason M. Schlude, Assistant Professor of Classics

Professor Schlude works on ancient Greek, Roman, and Near Eastern history and archaeology. He holds a B.A. in Classical Archaeology, Religious Studies, and Geology from Macalester College (2002) and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology from the University of California, Berkeley (2004 and 2009). His current research explores relations and connections between the ancient East and West, especially the relationship shared by Rome and Parthia. His most recently completed article, “The Parthian Response to the Campaign of Crassus,” will appear in Latomus in 2012. He is also in the preliminary stages of a book, Things We Know and Stories We Should, which illustrates the value of ancient Mediterranean literature and culture for a modern day audience. Outside the classroom, he loves spending time with his wife and young son, cooking, hiking, fly-fishing, poetry, black-and-white photography, racquetball, and golf.
