Email - IMAP Overview

This page no longer applies to Student Email! Students, please see our page on Outlook Live Student Email

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol and is used for accessing email on a remote server from different computers. Instead of downloading the email onto your PC (as with POP), IMAP allows you to log into the server directly to access your mail. Your mail and personal folders are stored on the server but you can manipulate them from your mail client and/or WebMail. IMAP is a very robust method for accessing mail however it is complex in nature.

There are two ways to access your Duquesne Mail account with IMAP. You should configure your local mail client for IMAP and use it while on campus (see below). When off campus you should access your mail via the WebMail interface (webmail.duq.edu).

If you have been using POP and then convert to IMAP, it is important to know that certain functions in your mail client will work differently than you are used to. Please see the software-specific documentation for more details on configuring your mail client for IMAP.

For specific details on how to configure your mail client for IMAP as well as transitioning your current mail data, please follow the appropriate link below for your mail client.
