Duquesne University is pleased to announce a new student email environment powered by Microsoft Outlook Live. On August 3, by logging into DORI students will be able to switch at their convenience from the current Webmail system to this new student email environment.
All students must complete this switch by September 30, 2009.
Students will benefit from Outlook Live email, as well as a suite of other Microsoft applications that enables them to better communicate, share, organize and collaborate with the Duquesne community. Another great benefit is the 10GB inbox limit.
Existing students’ email addresses will remain the same during this change. Emails received by Webmail prior to the switch will not be automatically forwarded to the new environment.
At this time only Duquesne University students will be transitioning to the new email system. Employees who are also part-time or full-time students will continue to use the current Webmail system.
CTS is currently in the process of developing a proposal for a new employee email system built on the Microsoft Exchange environment. Communication will be forthcoming; please check back.

Duquesne’s new email also provides access to the following Microsoft services for students only:
• Messenger-- IM integrated
• Mobile – Anytime Access.
• SkyDrive –25GB Online Storage. Private and Shared.
• Spaces – Create your own web space.
• Office Live Workspace – Save, Access and Share Files Online.
• Windows Live Writer - Create blogs.
| Please note: Duquesne University manages the email feature of the new environment; all other services are provided directly by Microsoft. |
Students will log into DORI and see a pop-up box prompting them to confirm their switch to the new Outlook Live student email system. Once they switch, students will use the email icon in DORI to access the new Outlook Live environment.
If you have ever set up an email forward from your @duq.edu account to another email service (i.e. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo) this process of switching your mail to Outlook Live will break that forward.
Although forwarding is still an option in the new student email space, Outlook Live has the capability of consolidating any non-Duquesne email account, such as Gmail, Hotmail, and others, so you can receive all of your messages in one place.
Students have until September 30, 2009, to transition to the new email environment. If you choose not to switch right away, you will be prompted each time you log into DORI until they make the switch is made.
Students who fail to complete the action required by September 30, 2009 will experience the following:
Students will continue to have access to their Duquesne Webmail Inbox and Folders until November 5, 2009, click here for more information. This will provide access to archive mail locally and so access is able to retrieve/forward old Webmail message until the end of the semester.
