Dean’s Law Dictionary
www.deanslawdictionary.com
Many scholars begin their research by consulting a legal dictionary when exploring a new topic. Dean’s is a specialized legal dictionary, and a number of law schools subscribe to it. The site, as well as many users, makes comparisons between Dean’s Law Dictionary and the well-established Black’s Law Dictionary. The web site explains an important difference between the two resources, that Dean’s definitions include references to relevant cases, unlike entries in Black’s. Another unique feature of Deans exists in the form of helpful explanations of complex idiomatic terms. Users can click on “Law Dictionary Samples” to see examples from this resource, which is especially useful when determining whether or not to purchase. This dictionary is quite extensive, including nearly 17,000 entries for legal definitions and rules. It is available in CD or web format for those interested in acquiring this reference powerful tool.
