Chinese Scholars visiting School of Law

Four visiting scholars from the China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing, China, (CUPL) are visiting the Duquesne University School of Law from April 11 through May 9, 2010. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the faculty exchange between CUPL and Duquesne.

The visiting scholars are:

•  Professor/Dr. Liu, (Lucy) Ying, Director of the CUPL Intellectual Property Clinic

Professor Liu organized and taught an outstanding clinical program in our 2009 Beijing summer program. Professor Liu is studying clinical legal education techniques in the U.S.

•  Professor/Dr. Zheng, (Elaine), Xuanyu, CUPL Intellectual Property Law Institute

Professor Zheng is an expert in the Law of Intellectual Property and is studying both substantive and clinical education techniques in Intellectual Property law of the U.S.

•  Professor/Dr. Sun, Qiang, CUPL Institute of Commercial Law, School of Civil and Economic Law

Professor Sun is an expert in Chinese Commercial Law, and he is examining American legal education techniques in his specialized fields.

•  Professor Li, Shurong, Executive Chair, CUPL Labor Union

Mr. Li is observing the operation of the Duquesne University faculty senate and exploring the overall administration of the University.

The University hopes to provide CUPL visitors a first-hand experience of American legal education with a particular emphasis on American clinical legal education. Activities include touring the Law School, the University, the City of Pittsburgh, attending classes, meeting with Law School deans, colleagues and law students, visiting and observing the clinic office and programs, courts, law firms and ACBA.

Event Reminder: Forensic Friday Seminar - Forensic Investigation of Sexual Assault Cases

On May 14, 2010, Dr. L. Kathleen Sekula, director of Duquesne University's Forensic Nursing program, will join Valerie Schreiber, operations director for the Sexual Assault Response Team of Allegheny County; Michelle Collins, head of the Allegheny County Public Defender's Child Abuse Unit; and Allegheny County Assistant District Attorney Chris Hoffman in discussing the investigation and adjudication of sexual assault cases, particularly those involving juvenile victims.
