Voice Mail


To improve communication and enhance productivity in these ways:

  • Your calls are answered around the clock.

  • If you’re not available, callers can leave a personal message in your mailbox.

  • You can access your mailbox at any time from any touchtone phone.

  • The monthly charge for departmental voice mail is $4.00 per line with a $20.00 one-time charge for activation

Retrieving New Or Saved Messages

Access the voice mail system by dialing x4740 (or 412-396-4740 from off-campus)
When the voice mail system answers, press [#]
Enter your personal mailbox number (your 4-digit campus extension)
Enter your security code
Press [5] to listen to your messages

Listening Options

While listening to your messages you can:

Press [1][3] to forward a message to another mailbox
Press [1][5] to listen to previous message
Press [1][9][2] to listen to saved messages
Press [2] to backup 6 seconds
Press [2][2] to back up to beginning of message
Press [3] to erase current message
Press [4] to advance within message
Press [5] to advance to next message
Press [7] to save current message
Press [8] for time and date of message
Press [0] for assistance
Press [#] to return to "ready" prompt

Changing Your Greeting

You may change your greeting as often as you'd like. Consider doing so to announce extended leaves from campus or when you're not able to regularly check for new voice mail messages.
To change your mailbox greeting dial x4740 (or 412-396-4740 from off-campus)

When the voice mail system answers, press [#]
Enter your mailbox number
Enter your security code
Press [4] for greeting
Press [5] to listen to current greeting
Press [6] to record a new greeting

Customizing Your Mailbox

From ready prompt, press [1][6]
Press [2] to change security code
Press [5] to set personal assistance
Press [8] to re-record your name

Reminder: Always press [9][9] to exit the voice mail system.

Quick Messaging

You may record a message without logging into your mailbox.

To send a quick message:

Dial x4740 (or 412-396-4740 from off-campus)
When the voice mail system answers, press [*]
Enter the address for your message (the recipient's 4-digit extension)
Record your message
Hang up
