Czech-In (Sweet Sixteen)
Sixteen musicians are on hand for this season-opener. Dvořák's Serenade in D Minor, op. 44 will be presented in its unusual original scoring for twelve instruments: two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, contrabassoon, three French horns, cello and double bass, performed by members of the Pittsburgh Symphony, conducted by Jeffrey Turner, newly appointed Director of Orchestral Activities at the Mary Pappert School of Music. The program will also include the dramatic Piano Quartet in E-Flat Major op. 87 and the rarely heard Sonata in F Major for Violin and Piano, op. 57.
