Sound-Czech (Trios)

Dvořák's piano trios contain some of his most sublime music, and two will be performed by an all-star trio of Andrés Cárdenes, former PSO concertmaster, Anne Martindale Williams, PSO Principal Cello and David Allen Wehr. The Piano Trio in F Minor op. 65 was composed in the aftermath of the death of the composer's mother, providing a catharsis for his grief, while the Trio in E Minor op. 90 contains six examples of the "dumka," a characteristic Czech musical form that alternates between sadness and gaiety. As an appetizer, Cárdenes and Wehr will perform the Sonatina in G Major op. 100, written in the U.S. for Dvořák's children to play.

Program Repertoire:

Sonatina in G Major for Violin and Piano, op. 100
Piano Trio in E Minor, op 90 "Dumky"
Piano Trio in F Minor, op. 65
