The School of Education’s Department of Instruction and Leadership & Inaugural Middle Level Program Cohort welcome Sharon Flake, young adult literature author and fellow Pittsburgh resident, to spend a day with Duquesne and local area schools.

Sharon G. Flake, a well-known adolescent literature writer and Pittsburgh resident, will accompany Dr. Terri Rodriguez's middle level classes for two site visits at Avonworth Middle School and The Watson Institute-Friendship Academy. Students at the site visits will experience
- A book reading by Ms. Flake from her books Who Am I Without Him? Short Stories About Girls and the Boys in Their Lives (2004) You Don't Even Know Me: Stories and Poems about Boys (2010), and The Skin I’m In (1998)
- A Q&A session with the author
- A book signing
The Department of Instruction & Leadership has purchased copies of both books for all of the students attending the event. Additionally, both school libraries will receive a donation of a box set of three of Ms. Flake's most popular novels!
A luncheon for Ms. Flake and the faculty at the School of Education will follow at 12:30 p.m. in 108 Canevin Hall.
