Application & Procedures

The application deadline to be considered for the fall semester cohort is February 1st. Applications may be accepted beyond this date if there remains openings in the doctoral program.

  1. Complete the University Online Application.  If you are an international student, please visit the Office of International Programs for their application and procedures.
  2. Complete the Online Doctoral Application
  3. E-mail the Supervisor’s Evaluation and Recommendation to a former or current supervisor
  4. E-mail the Academic/Professional Evaluation and Recommendation to  two professionals familiar with you, your academic potential, or work experience. One (1) of the recommendation forms may be completed by a Duquesne counseling faculty member if the doctoral applicant is a graduate of Duquesne's masters' programs in counseling.
  5. Mail official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate study to:

  6. Submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (within past 5 years) to Duquesne University. If you have not taken the GRE, you will have to take it. For more information on how to sign up and how to submit old scores, see the ETS website. Applicants in the Pittsburgh area often take the GRE at the University of Pittsburgh.
  7. International students must also submit either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.  The minimum score for the TOEFL paper based is 550, and 80 for the internet version. The minimum score for the IELTS is 7.0. Scores are to be submitted to:

For the 2012-13 admissions cycle, selected applicants will be invited to participate in individual and group interviews on either Wednesday, February 15th, from 3:00-5:00 pm, or Wednesday, February 22nd, from 3:00-5:00. Applicants will be notified if he or she has been invited to interview.

Offers of admission will be made by April 1st.

All cohort members are required to participate in an orientation program prior to the initial fall semester of training.
