President

Nick Cafardi

Nicholas Cafardi

I have served four years (2006-2010) as the Law School's representative to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and the last two years (2010-2012) as the President of the Faculty Senate. I said when I asked for your vote two years ago that I would be a strong advocate for Faculty rights, and I believe that I have kept that promise. The profile of the Faculty Senate on campus has never been higher. We are working together as we never have before to respectfully engage the university on those matters that are important to us all.

I seek your vote for a second and final two year term as your President. While much has been accomplished, much more remains to be done. As we face the fiscal challenges of the next two years, it will be especially important that the Faculty have a strong voice to express our legitimate concerns.

I have been a professor at the Law School since 1993. I served as dean for 12 years, and was overwhelmingly approved by the Faculty for re-appointment as dean three times. I had the support of my Faculty colleagues for this re-appointment because I respected their rights and I saw it, as my job, to serve them. I see my Faculty Senate post in the same way. I seek it for one reason only, to serve my Faculty colleagues here at Duquesne.

For those of you who want to know more about me, there is an extensive bio on the Law School website which lists my other activities. My most recent book, Voting and Holiness, Catholic Perspectives on Political Participation, of which I am a chapter author and general editor, has just been published by Paulist Press.

Secretary

Annie Burrows

Annie BurrowsMy years of serving in the Faculty Senate have allowed me to be an active agent of increased participation by faculty members from the Rangos School of Health Sciences. As chair of the Contingent Faculty sub-committee I have worked to improve the place of these faculty members in the fabric of our university community. We have a university administration that has increased the national & international visibility of Duquesne University, facilitated the development of ever stronger academic programs, and increasingly worked with faculty members to improved shared university governance.
