Mylan School of Pharmacy

Scholarship Funds: In keeping with Duquesne University’s Spiritan heritage, Advancing Our Legacy places an unprecedented emphasis on increasing endowed funds designated for student scholarships. Our founders and sponsors were determined that the benefits of a Duquesne education should be available to all, regardless of ability to pay. Endowed scholarships ensure that Duquesne can attract and retain talented and motivated students for generations to come.

Unrestricted Funds: Unrestricted gifts allow the dean to direct resources to the School’s most critical needs and to respond to unexpected opportunities. The vast majority of gifts to the Pharmacy School are designated for a specific program or purpose, making such discretionary funds particularly valuable.

Entrepreneurial Education: Interdisciplinary initiatives will plant the seeds of innovation and independence by integrating entrepreneurial education across the curriculum. Working with Duquesne’s Center for Biotechnology and Business Schools, the Mylan School of Pharmacy will equip all students with understanding and skills in accounting, finance, sales, marketing, management, problem solving and business development. In accord with Duquesne’s mission and values, students will also develop a keen appreciation of ethical issues and practices as they apply at the intersection of pharmacy and business.

Duquesne pharmacy graduates will be uniquely qualified to start their own businesses or bring distinctive entrepreneurial skills to established employers. Resource funds have already been secured, supporting faculty efforts to study and adapt best practices, develop courses and teaching tools, and build partnerships within and outside the University. Funds are still needed for enhancements such as a speakers’ series, student workshops, business plan competitions, and ultimately a dedicated endowment to ensure the perpetual maintenance and growth of these initiatives.

Pharmacy Practice and Care: A pharmacist-coordinated provider of disease prevention and health management services for the Duquesne campus community, the Center for Pharmacy Practice and its wellness program have been recognized as a national model by the Association of Chain Drug Stores. Services include publications, seminars, screenings and follow-up counseling. The Center combines community practice education, research and service, and seeks to expand its efforts into underserved neighborhoods. Giving opportunities include naming the Center and funding major components such as an outreach vehicle.
